Houston immigration attorney arrested, indicted for mail fraud and writing false statements: DOCS

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Houston Immigration attorney has been arrested and is accused of defrauding clients, according to court records.

A Harris County jury indicted Alla Nowowiejski on a count of mail fraud and another count of false statement. According to the indictment, she allegedly promised to provide legal services to two clients, which the prosecution said she never provided.

The prosecution said Nowowiejski told one of the clients to submit medical records to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services when they did not need to. She is also accused of submitting medical records on behalf of the clients to the same agency, knowing they "contained materially false statements."

In addition to the newest charge, court records showed that another client, Audubon Engineering Operations, sued Nowowiejski in 2023. In the suit, the company said it hired her to handle immigration cases for five of its clients.

The company also said it later found that Nowowiejski was not filing paperwork as she had claimed. A judge ruled in the company's favor when Nowowiejski did not respond to the lawsuit.

Nowowiejski appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday afternoon. Officials did not say whether she had been released from federal custody yet.
